Granite counter tops have become the new must have for today’s kitchen. It seems as though other materials are not even a consideration for homeowners. Granite is beautiful and comes in countless colors and styles. But with price tags in the thousands, granite is not for everyone. Tile, laminate and butcher block counters are all more affordable options.

New laminate counter tops are being designed to mimic the look and sheen of exponentially pricier granite slabs. This more affordable option can instantly give your kitchen a richer feel.

For those who worry that expensive granite will soon become a dated fixture, a butcher block top is the most timeless choice. Because you can work directly on top of the wood, they are the clear choice for serious cooks.

Another less expensive option is tile. Subtle color choice is required when tiling counter tops, as the contrast between grout and tile can take over the whole look of the kitchen.

When you are remodeling a kitchen, it is best to not get swept up in the current style of the day. You do not have to empty your wallet to have a kitchen that will be beautiful for years and years to come.
